Ray Weston was born in Glasgow, where he began his musical career playing with local bands, before moving to London in the early eighties. Ray Weston's first connection with Wishbone Ash was in the early eighties when he began working with Wishbone Ash's founder member Martin Turner on a number of projects at Martin's London studio. This led to Ray joining Martin's post-Wishbone Ash group the Wolf Gang in 1982. Much recording was undertaken during this period and, although the tapes were not issued at the time, Ray appears on several tracks on "Walking the Reeperbahn", Martin's 1996 solo collection of previously unreleased recordings.

During the mid to late eighties Ray Weston established himself as a notable figure on the London studio scene, sessioning for major artists such as Bill Wyman, Del Shannon and Cliff Richard. In 1986 Ray played drums with Ultravox on the band's final tour.

In 1990 Ray received a call from Martin Turner, asking if he would be interested in playing drums on some of the tracks on the "Strange Affair" album. Ray eventually appeared on six out of ten tracks and accompanying the band on the extensive tour which followed and also appearing on the 1992 live collection "The Ash Live in Chicago". Ray remained with Wishbone Ash until December 1993.

Following his split with Wishbone Ash Ray joined the band World of Leather, who recorded two albums in the mid nineties, and continued his career as a leading sessioner. Ray also appeared in the house bands for popular UK TV shows such as "Viva Cabaret" and "The Jack Dee Show", backing popular artists such as Tom Jones. Ray also worked very briefly with original Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green. In 1998 Ray was invited by Andy Powell to rejoin Wishbone Ash and remained with the band until January 2007, appearing on the "Bare Bones", "Bona Fide", and "Clan Destiny" studio albums, as well as several live recordings.
