1994-97

Roger Filgate - Geneva, 1995

Roger - Barnsley, 1995

Roger Filgate first met Wishbone Ash's Andy Powell in a Connecticut music store in 1993. Having spent the best part of a decade in California touring the club circuit with various bands, as well as building guitars for celebrities at Fender Guitars Custom shop, Roger had returned to his home state in the early nineties. Andy and Roger immediately clicked as players and friends and developed a strong songwriting partnership which would form the basis of the 1996 Wishbone Ash album "Illuminations"

Having toured with Wishbone Ash as a guitar technician in 1993, Roger Filgate was invited by Andy Powell to join Wishbone Ash early in 1994, following the departure of original member Ted Turner. Roger made his live debut on Wishbone Ash's Spring 1995 tour and was instantly accepted by the band's fan base.

Although honoured to follow in the footsteps of respected players such as Ted Turner and Laurie Wisefield, Roger made no attempt to fill his predecessor's shoes, preferring to make his own statement as a player, bringing a new range of influences and textures to the Wishbone Ash sound. A highly accomplished and versatile musician, Roger also contributed bass, lap steel and keyboards to "Illuminations".

After three and a half years with Wishbone Ash, Roger Filgate decided to leave Wishbone Ash to explore new musical pastures at the end of 1997. He has since appeared in a popular US Beatles tribute show called "Twist and Shout" alongside fellow "Illuminations"-era Wishbone Ash musician Tony Kishman.
