Bob Skeat -
Bass/ Vocals
1998-present
London born musician Bob Skeat comes from a musical family. His father Bill Skeat plays woodwind instruments and was one of the top UK session musicians from the 1960's to 80's, while his uncle Len is a leading jazz player.
As a teenager, Bob listened to most rock/pop music but it was when he heard "Burlesque" by Family (with its distinctive bass riff coincidentally played by another Wishbone Ash associate John Wetton!), that he knew that he wanted to play bass (Bob had studied piano since the age of five). Bob began playing in school bands and was gigging by the age of 16.
He went to music college to study string bass and piano, and soon after turned professional. Bob has toured and recorded with Colin Blunstone, Princess Stephanie of Monaco, Gilbert O'Sullivan, and Toyah Willcox. He has also done sessions, recorded TV ads and radio jingles.
Bob Skeat first met Andy Powell when he was recording bass lines for the "Trance Visionary" project. In the wake of Tony Kishman's departure, Andy asked him to fill the bass slot on the band's Spring 1998 tour. Bob has remained with the band to the present day and says of the band's music, "Wishbone Ash's music is a pleasant challenge, as the bass is often called upon to play a harmony-melody line, rather than just underpinning the music."
