Mark Birch - Guitar/ Vocals
1998-2001

Mark Birch 1995

Mark Birch was born in Kidderminster and realised at a very early age that all he wanted to do was play music, forming his first band at the age of 15. After playing and recording in the Midlands area of the UK, he joined a London-based band whose lead singer was Nev MacDonald, of the band Skin. Mark went on to perform and record with a number of different acts, covering a wide range of musical styles.

In 1998, Mark was recommended to Andy Powell for the vacant Wishbone Ash guitar position by his longtime friend Bob Skeat. After Mark had made contact with Andy, they exchanged music and photos by e-mail. Speaking about this unusual form of "audition" Mark says, "Wishbone Ash is one band that is definitely not stuck in the past!!"

Mark debuted with Wishbone on their 1998 Spring tour. Speaking about playing with Wishbone Ash, Mark said "Playing with Wishbone Ash is like a breath of fresh air. The music and musicianship is superb, and the blend of personalities make it a joy to be in the band." Aside from his lead guitar contribution, Mark Birch established himself as a strong vocal force within the band, handling lead vocal on live renditions of Wishbone Ash classics such as "Persephone", "Phoenix" and "Everybody Needs a Friend".

Mark would remain an integral part of the band until 2001 when he departed for pastures new, including work as a web designer for several major corporate clients to his credit.
